Shattered
by Susan Frankovich
~~~~~~~
She hurt him tonight.
She looked deep into his eyes and with one sentence,
she broke him into pieces...
"He told me that the men behind this hoax, behind
these lies, gave me this disease to make you believe."
And as soon as the words came out of her mouth,
she felt herself breaking too.
She wanted to help him understand, to explain how
she felt, to tell him that she still believed in
him.
But he never gave her a chance to.
She wanted to go after him, she needed to, but her
feet wouldn't move and her mouth wouldn't open.
And so she just stood there in the dark and did
the only thing she could do.
Breathe.
She doesn't remember how long she stood there, or
how long it took her to finally walk to her car
and drive home.
She doesn't remember walking into her apartment
or changing her clothes or sinking underneath the
covers on her bed.
She doesn't remember when the first tear fell or
when the last tear stopped.
But she remembers the moment she shattered him.
And she always will.
~end~
