hidden truths
by susan frankovich
~~~~~~~~
you did it again, dad
you kept the truth
from me
how many times does
that make now?
i've lost count
all the secret phone calls
and mysterious trips
you never told me the
truth about them
all the late night meetings
all the times i asked
you about Samantha
you never told me the
truth about them either
all i wanted was for you
to love me and let me
be a part of your life
but you kept yourself
hidden from me
were you that ashamed
of me or was it your own
life that you detested?
even as you lay dying
in my arms you wouldn't
tell me the truth
you wouldn't help me
to understand
you asked for my
forgiveness
but what was i
supposed to forgive?
you kept the truth
from me, dad
and now i'll never
know how you really
felt about me
and i'll never know
what you really did
with your life all
those years
you did it again, dad
you kept the truth
from me and left me
with nothing
just like always
